The Creston Public Library will be hosting an Introduction to Meditation with Kuya Minogue on December 2nd at 12:30 pm.

Medical research has pretty much confirmed that a regular meditation practice has a profoundly positive effect on physical, mental and spiritual health. Meditation is a method that is free, does not require any special equipment and that can be done at any time. Meditation is also an important and effective tool for stress reduction.

Meditation is relaxation. It is not about concentration it’s actually about de-concentration, with meditation the body’s physiology undergoes a change. There are many health and mental benefits that are attributed to this practice. Meditation leads to a calm mind, it can help lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety attacks, decrease tension-related pain, increase serotonin production, & improve the immune system.

You don’t have to come to a Zen temple or be Buddhist to make this simple and yet transformative practice a part of your life; and you don’t have to make a commitment to anyone or anything other than to your own well-being.

In this talk, Kuya Minogue, will talk about ways to integrate meditation into your family life, your work life and your community life. She will cover meditation postures that enhance the overall beneficial effects of meditation, and how to apply your awareness in a manner that will calm you, give you more energy and deepen your ability to focus on the present – where your whole life is taking place, moment by moment.

Kuya Minogue has been training as a meditation teacher since 1986. She is an ordained Zen Priest and resident Zen teacher at Creston’s Zen temple, Sakuraji. She has taken all required courses to certify as a mindfulness teacher with the Massachusett’s School of Medicine and has taught mindfulness and meditation as way of reducing stress.
