“But Isn’t It Dangerous?”

The Creston Public Library is pleased to continue its Living Books – Travel Editions speaker series. The speaker this month is Heather More as we Book a Trip to Honduras and join her on her adventures.

Heather’s first trip to Honduras was to accompany her then Grade 8 daughter, Kira, and a group of PCSS students who spent 2 weeks in Santa Barbara, Honduras, working in a local orphanage. Since then she has returned almost every year, both with and without her family, spending part of her time working and visiting Rotary projects and part of the time enjoying this beautiful country.

She’s fallen in love with the people and the country, despite Honduras’ reputation as being a dangerous place to travel – largely a result of its unfortunate location between the drug producing countries of South America and the drug using countries of North America. So far, she has visited the Mayan ruins of Copan, the rural towns of the interior, the rainforests, and beautiful Bay Islands with some of the best snorkeling and diving in the world. There are more places to visit if she can only figure out how to spend more time there.

Living “books” are real people, your friends and neighbours, volunteering to share aspects of their own “story”. Through living books the library seeks to encourage the sharing of knowledge and passion between people. The library hosts these get-togethers where a member of your community share their personal experiences. This year we are focusing on the topic of travel as tourist guides are a very popular genre at the library. Now see travel guides come to life and draw you in with stories and images.

All are welcome to hear Heather’s presentation on Thursday, November 29th at 7pm at the Creston Public Library. Admission is free.
