Library Hosts Living Book: Ilana Cameron

The Creston Public Library is pleased to continue its Living Books – Travel Editions speaker series. The speaker this month is well-known local business owner Ilana Cameron as we Book a Trip to Ecuador and join her on a bike ride through the Andes Mountains.

The Trans Ecuador Mountain Bike Route runs the length of the country’s volcanic corridor, following jeep tracks and tertiary, low traffic sealed roads. Meandering a remote course through the Ecuadorian Andes, it connects vibrant, colourful market towns with small mountain settlements. Amongst many highlights, its itinerary includes the volcanic trio of Cotopaxi, Quilatoa and Chimborazo, as well as the beautiful colonial city of Cuena.

Adventure in a new land is alluring in and of itself; when done with the volition of your own body, of your own mettle and might it becomes something much more than just travel. Ilana loves to explore by bicycle, on routes that follow mountain spines, and that go through small usually unvisited communities within strange and interesting ecosystems. Join Ilana as she shares her most recent trip to Ecuador where she and her partner travelled the Ecuadorian Andes by bicycle.

Ilana can usually be found roasting coffee in Creston when she isn’t travelling. She used to be a barista at Kingfisher Books and before that graduated from the music program at Selkirk College in Nelson. She is also a major plant geek and is delighted to find interesting and zone-testing plants to grow in her backyard.

Living “books” are real people, your friends and neighbours, volunteering to share aspects of their own “story”. Through living books the library seeks to encourage the sharing of knowledge and passion between people. The library hosts these get-togethers where a member of your community share their personal experiences. This year we are focusing on the topic of travel as tourist guides are a very popular genre at the library. Now see travel guides come to life and draw you in with stories and images.

All are welcome to hear Ilana’s presentation on Wednesday, September 26th at 7pm at the Creston Public Library. Admission is free.
