The Lure & Lore of the Local Lecture Series: The Dick Fry Appreciation Society

Saturday June 1 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)
On Saturday, June 1st, we’ll have another lecture in our series The Lure & Lore of the Local: History and Stories of Creston and Kootenay Lake. These lectures are a collaboration between local writer and historian Luanne Armstrong, the Creston Museum, and the Creston Public Library in commemoration of the town of Creston’s 100th anniversary of incorporation.
Come hear West Kootenay-based author Kevin Nichol share the fascinating and previously untold story of Dick Fry, who came west on the Oregon Trail, fought in the Indian Wars, fell in love with and married a Sinixt woman and lived happily ever with her. His many adventures include canoeing the Columbia River north of Colville up around the Big Bend to Canal Flats, and then downstream on the Kootenay River to Fort Steele. He later struck gold at 49 Creek near Nelson and bought a ranch and the ferry at Bonners Ferry and forged a relationship with the Ktunaxa.
Please note the location and time change for this lecture: Saturday, June 1st at 3:30pm, in the meeting room at the Library. Remote access is also available via ZOOM – email programs@crestonlibrary.com for the link.
