Board Statement
Note of clarification from the Board of the Creston Valley Public Library:
We would like to clarify the situation regarding letters/e-mails that were recently received by the Board and the Library.
Only two letters to the Board requested removal of books. We have a process in place for handling requests for reconsideration of books in the collection, and that process is being followed.
A number of letters were received concerning the Lit column in The Advance, “Choose Curiosity, not Bigotry”. The aim of the column was to bring to people’s attention some aspects of recent events in the community that they might not be aware of and point readers to sources of further information available in the library collection.
The Board values the expertise and experience of Saara and her staff. We are proud of the work they do to uphold, with care and integrity, our policy of diversity and inclusion, making the Library a safe place for all.
