The Lure & Lore of the Local: History and Stories of Creston and Kootenay Lake

Creston Museum, Creston Public Library, and Luanne Armstrong are teaming up to bring you a series of special presentations on local history! the Town of Creston is celebrating the hundredth anniversary of its incorporation this year, and that’s all the excuse we need!

The Creston Valley and Kootenay Lake are rich with stories: historical, prehistorical, and present day. Come and learn about where you live and how it became the place that it is. Geology, prehistory, the history of Kootenay Lake, stories of the Nasookin and other sternwheelers and the story of how Creston became a town are some of the topics that will be presented.

In the second installment of this speaker series, local author Luanne Armstrong takes the helm. Kootenay Lake is beautiful, mysterious and full of stories. Its rise and fall over the years has formed the entire valley in which we live. Luanne Armstrong is a writer, teacher, historian, photographer and editor, and she has lived on or in the lake for most of her life. Join us for an afternoon of stories about the lake, how and when it was formed, why it never freezes, where all the fish went, and many many other stories.
