RESOURCES FOR THE PRINT DISABLED
A Daisy Reader is available for borrowing. We also stock a large collection of audiobooks on CD, and have access to a large collection of audiobooks which may be downloaded.
Daisy Books and MP3 discs can be borrowed from other libraries. To find Daisy Books in the catalogue, click on Advanced Search, select Subject in the drop down menu, and type “daisy books” in the search box. To find NNELS resources and mp3 discs, do a keyword search for “nnels” or “mp3”. Click “search”, then check the box labelled “Show results from All Libraries” and wait for results to load.
Creston Valley Public Library is proud to partner with the National Network of Equitable Library Service (NNELS) to provide wider access to print materials in digital form for people with print disabilities.
HOW IT WORKS
NNELS provides access to a large and ever-expanding library of digital audio files containing recorded versions of fiction and non-fiction titles (i.e. audiobooks). Eligible patrons can gain access to this library through their Creston Valley Public Library account by self-declaring themselves as “print-disabled”. This must be done through the library–either in person or over the phone. Patrons will then have access to the NNELS library and be able to download the items from the collection to their computer or device.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE
NNELS material is available for those with a perceptual disability. Perceptual disabilities, also referred to as print disabilities, are defined by the Canadian Copyright Act as, “a disability that prevents or inhibits the individual from accessing the print material due to a visual impairment, a physical disability, or a comprehension disability.”
