HOW TO APPLY
Applications for membership must be made in person. Proof of identification and current address is required.
For individuals 12 years old and younger, a parent or legal guardian must provide written permission or be present at the time of application.
We do not offer joint or family accounts. However, members may designate certain individuals to sign out items on their behalf.
CARD TYPES
1. Resident Card
Free for individuals who reside in the Town of Creston or RDCK Areas A, B, or C.
2. BC One Card
Individuals with a valid library card from any public library in BC may access resources at Creston Valley Public Library free of charge with the same limits and privileges as residents.
3. Temporary Card
Temporary cards allow short-term visitors to take out 2 items at a time and are valid for 1 month. Cards are non-renewable and cannot be used for electronic resources.
4. Non-Resident Card
Non-residents who wish to have full access to the range of resources available to residents may apply for a Non-Resident Card. Non-resident cards cost $25/year and require an additional $25 deposit.
5. Institutional Card
Teachers and non-profit institutions may receive a free Institutional Card. Institutional Cards have the same loan limits as Resident Cards. The teacher or institution will be held responsible for all fines or damages that are incurred through use of the card.
Permanent residents may join the library free of charge with proof of residency.
Members of other BC libraries may be eligible for a BC OneCard, which would give them borrowing privileges at Creston Valley Library.
Non-residents who aren’t eligible for a BC OneCard can purchase a temporary library card for $10.00, which is valid for 6 months.
Library card holders’ rights and responsibilities
You are responsible for all the materials borrowed on your card and for any charges on items that are overdue, lost or damaged. (See Loan Periods and Fines for details). Your library card provides access to licensed databases from outside the library. You may also look at our catalogue from home over the Internet, and access your account to place holds, keep lists and renew items.
Lost or stolen cards
If you lose your library card, you are responsible for any items checked out on your card. You must report it as lost immediately and we will block the card so that no one can use it.
Change of address or password
It is important for us to have your current information. If you change your address or other personal information, contact the library and we’ll update your record.
